HEBREW SCHOOL UPDATE!

Jan. 6, 2010

Shalom Parents!Flash Photo 1

We hope this e-mail finds you all rested and renewed. We're happy to report that while the kids were away from Chabad Hebrew School, we were busy planning for an even more inspiring, educational and fun second half of the school year for your kids! Below is a list of highlights--events and activities-- you and your kids won't want to miss. As you have in the past, we hope you will continue to participate where/when possible and encourage your child to get the most out of their Jewish education.

Again, these are things to look forward to, in addition to our regular schedule sent at the beginning of the year...

-Please MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Friday, January 29th. Please join the Chabad Hebrew School for a very special Tu b'Shevat Shabbat Hebrew School Family Dinner. We'll have a separate kids service before we eat (a kid-friendly menu!). Kids are welcome to bring a friend to this event. More details to come...watch your inboxes.

-We've added a monthly music time with musician Josh Martin. We'll celebrate Judaism with both classic songs that most Jewish kids grow up with, and a few new tunes, as well. This is in addition to the morning davening we all do together. The kids love to sing!

-We've added an "Ask the Rabbi" feature to our schedule. Once a month, the kids will use critical thinking skills to explore more advanced topics that we'll be studying. They'll have an opportunity each month to prepare questions for an interview with our brilliant Rabbi.

-On February 21st, we've got an extra fun day planned with crafts, stories, music, snacks and learning. Let your kids know that they are welcome to invite a friend this day. (Friends are always welcome at Chabad, and we think this particular day will be especially fun for new faces.)

-We've added four mentoring experiences in the schedule around four upcoming holidays. Our older students will have the opportunity to teach a brief lesson to the younger students. This will strengthen our School community, diversify our teaching experiences, and provide yet another authentic and fun learning opportunity for ALL the kids as they study together!

-Here's a quick reminder that the Chabad Purim Party is February 28th, beginning at 3:00pm. Bring the whole family! And, we hope you'll also join the Pesach Community Seder, March 29th, 7:00pm.

-Your kids won't want to miss school on April 11th... We'll "travel" to Eastern Europe to learn about cooking from the Old Country. The kids will cook with a professional chef/baker to make timeless recipes that honor and preserve our Jewish culture and tradition. This will be a delicious day!

-On May 2nd, we'll celebrate Lag b'Omer with a special outdoor surprise activity. Please dress your kids for appropriately for the day's weather.

-Please SAVE THE DATE: May 23rd. This is the last day of school. We'll recognize each student's accomplishments with a short morning ceremony, and then we'll party together! More details, location and schedule to come. Stay tuned...

But, we can't give it all away... There are more surprises for the kids over the next few months. We'll keep you posted. Your child's Jewish education is something we take seriously--and we want it to be seriously fun!

If you have ideas or would like to lead a craft or activity in the classroom, please contact us and let us know about your special talents/ideas or time to lend. And, as always, please speak with us directly if you have questions, feedback or concerns.

Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday and the next few months of Hebrew School,

Devorah Leah & Julie Weinstein
